GenAI Comes to Life in the RAN: The First AI-Generated rApp on a Live SMO Platform
For the first time, a GenAI-generated rApp has been created and deployed on a live Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) platform—built with Aira Technologies’ Naavik AppGen. This breakthrough, achieved within the Ericsson Intelligent Automation Platform ecosystem, demonstrates what programmable, AI-native networks truly look like in practice. By using GenAI to transform network optimization ideas into production-ready applications, it marks a pivotal step toward autonomous RAN operations. As Robert Soni, VP of RAN Technology at AT&T, emphasized, this milestone highlights the power of innovation, collaboration, and a clear vision to drive meaningful progress. Amanda Toman, NTIA’s Open RAN Program Director, also noted that advancements like this illustrate how AI-driven innovation and ecosystem cooperation are accelerating the realization of open, intelligent, and future-ready networks.
