From Automation to Autonomy: Why Level 4 Autonomous Networks and Open RAN Intelligence Are Critical for Telco Transformation
ABSTRACT:
As telecom networks grow increasingly complex with 5G, edge computing, and multi-vendor architectures, traditional automation is no longer sufficient to meet operational and service demands. Level 4 autonomous networks represent the next critical evolution, enabling closed-loop, AI-driven decision-making that reduces operational costs, improves service reliability, and accelerates service deployment. Central to this transformation is the adoption of Open RAN architectures and the RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC), which enable real-time network optimization, vendor interoperability, and dynamic spectrum and resource management. By leveraging advanced automation and intelligent orchestration, telcos can enhance network performance, support emerging enterprise and private network use cases, and create scalable, future-ready infrastructure capable of adapting to rapidly evolving connectivity demands.
